Bánh Tráng Nướng, or Grilled Vietnamese Rice Paper Pizza, is a popular street food in Vietnam known for its delicious combination of crispy crunchy textures and savory flavors. Today I’m going to share with you my favorite way to prepare this dish!
Vietnamese food is one of my top 3 favorite cuisines and breakfast has to be my favorite meal of the day. I love this recipe because it combines two of my favorite things! The fun the about making a Bánh Tráng Nướng aka Vietnamese Breakfast Pizza, is that you can top it with your favorite ingredients. I don’t use the traditional shrimp and pork toppings on mine; which dont get me wrong, is delicious! But, I just use the items I tend to always have on hand. My version is easy, quick, and ready under 10 minutes!
Ingredients!
- 1 Rice paper sheet (Bánh Tráng)
- 1 tablespoon chili crisp or chili sauce
- 2 eggs
- Sprinkle of parmesan cheese
- 1 Green onion, finely chopped
- 3 sprigs of cilantro, torn
- 1/2 avocado sliced
- 1/8 cup Vietnamese pickled carrots and daikon (Đồ Chua)
Instructions:
- Heat your pan over medium heat.
- Add 1 sheet of rice paper into the pan, do NOT oil the pan!
- Add the chili crisp/sauce to the middle of the rice paper.
- Crack 2 eggs right on top and gently scramble over the rice paper with chopsticks. Makes sure the mixture covers the whole piece of rice paper.
- While the egg and chili mixture is cooking, sprinkle the green onion and cheese on top.
- When you see the eggs are almost all the way cooked through, turn off the heat and add the remaining ingredients.
- Plate your Vietnamese pizza, it should be very easy to slide out of the pan. You might need a spatula to loosen if the egg mixture spilled over the sides of the rice paper which 9 times out of 10 will happen but it’s totally fine!
Bánh Tráng Nướng is best enjoyed immediately, while the rice paper is still crispy and the filling is warm. Serve with extra sauce on the side for dipping and savor the delightful combination of textures and tastes in each bite. I like to fold mine in half and eat it like a taco!
Enjoy!
